Springbok Construction

Sunday, 19 May 2024 18:00

What a weekend. Scouts started arriving from 15:00 on Friday, 17th May, for what would be a packed weekend of pioneering.

The Springbok Construction was planned by Jaryde Hulley for his major project. Jaryde is a Scout with the Jan Smuts Scout Group, and both Sandringham and Jan Smuts work very closely together on a lot of badges, event planning etc, so when the time cam e for the project, it made sense to use th Sandringham pioneering equipment (a mix of both Sydsand and Glenhurst Poles).

The build started at 17:00, with Scouts being briefed on what had to be done. The build was a rather unusual design of a double draw bridge. The model was used extensively during the weekend to reference so that it was built to the same specifications. Only a single change was made to the design over the entire build. Two 4-foot poles added to the bridge sections to stop twisting. Models work very differently to real life builds.

The Sandringham Patrol Leaders, Ethan and Daniel really shone throughout the build, and showed their leadership capabilities as well as perseverance. They learned a lot about build management, and will great assist with their First Class Constructions, and ultimately their own Springbok Construction projects.

The pioneering team from Sandringham who assisted Jaryde with his build were: Ethan, Daniel, Lesedi, Thomas, Thani and Tim.

Well done to all, and well done to Jaryde on completing the project. All was signed off by our District Commissioner, de Waal Fourie.
