Meerkat Zoo Ramble

On Saturday, 23rd March, the Sandringham Meerkats and Cubs visited the Johannesburg Zoo. The Zoo is currently celebrating it’s 120th Birthday. Click here for more information about the zoo.
To say the Zoo was busy was an understatement. Queuing for over an hour, we were lucky enough to be bumped to the front of the queue after a parent managed to get to the front of the queue, saving us another hour of waiting. Estimated between 7000 and 10000 people at the Zoo.
The Meerkats and Cubs were accompanied by Scouters and their parents. The highlights of the adventure were definitely the Meerkat enclosure, the Elephants and the Lions…….and most definately the picnic where lost of yummy snacks were had.
As part of the Earth Hour challenge, the Meerkats collected two bags of litter within the Zoo grounds. It’s amazing how people will throw the litter on the ground when a bin is less that 10m away. Great to see the Meerkats making such a great effort.
Meerkats meet every Saturday at the Sandringham Scout Hall from 3pm to 4pm. For more information or to make contact, check out the contact page.
