Class B - Radio Amateur Exam

Saturday, 14 January 2017

The Sandringham Scout Group Amateur Radio Club (ZS6SSG) will be running the Class B Course (ZU License) for all children aged 10 to 15 at the Sandringham Scout hall on Saturday mornings from 09:00 to 12:00.

There is no cost for the course, but there are license fees etc payable to ICASA for the examination and the first years license which amounts to R400.

I have copied in some links below relating to the Radio Amateurs Examination.

We are starting the first lesson with some practical operating on the 25th February 2017.

I will be sending out a full schedule of what will be covered on each of the Saturday morning lessons, but just finalizing the smaller details first.

Should you know of anyone else within Scouting, or who is not a Scout, but would like to do the course and obtain their Class B license, please let me know.

Registration for the RAE opens on the 21st January 2017. I can assist should you need any help with the registration process.

The key concept around the Class B Course is the practical aspect. The course will consist of three sections each Saturday morning. A lecture, followed by a practical and then a radio operating portion of an hour. All students must make a minimum of 20 contacts over the duration of the course and keep a logbook.

Please let me know should you have any questions. [email protected]
